Emmanuel Omodeinde – Team Assistant at Curtis Brown Creative

I studied English Literature for my undergrad and postgrad. During my postgrad, I wrote a dissertation on how African-American women writers challenge the historiography of slavery in their neo-slave narratives in the work of Toni Morrison, Octavia Butler and Yaa Gyasi. I have written for my university’s student newspaper and currently run a ‘bookstagram’ where I review books and have a blog for reviews and advice on getting into the publishing industry. I also do some marketing consulting for a student-led literary magazine called Onyx which is based in Oxford. I’m looking to improve my proofreading and copyediting skills and learn the basics of editorial work. My career goals are to become a commissioning editor and eventually an editorial director at a literary imprint in a major commercial publishing house or big indie.
